About Bev

First of all, you need to know that I love sharing with people about healthy living. I am a fully-credentialed Registered Dietitian with a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Food and Nutrition from Ryerson University and a Minor in Family Supports and Community Practice. I completed a 10-month dietetic internship at North York General Hospital in Toronto, and passed the qualifying Exam to be a Registered Dietitian in Ontario. I also have a previous, extensive background in healthy-lifestyle community outreach. Since 2001, I have enjoyed the wonderful opportunity to be a frequent healthy-lifestyle speaker and women's issues speaker in various community organizations, businesses, schools, and churches throughout Ontario. I have facilitated numerous healthy lifestyle workshops and presentations, as well as hands-on cooking classes. I've written healthy living articles for magazines and have been a guest on several television talk-shows.

In May/June 2004, I gained valuable experience in working with a diabetic clientele through an education/work program at the Diabetes Education Centre in Parry Sound, which services a diverse population within Parry Sound and the surrounding area. Working with a Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Educator, I - amongst other activities - visited several First Nations communities; created and presented various health initiatives for First Nations communities, including - among other things - creating a presentation on "The ABC's of Childhood Nutrition" and leading out in a vegetarian cooking class; and created and launched a new newsletter for the DEC. This hands-on experience, coupled with auditing client consultations, piqued my desire to assist people living with diabetes and help them understand that, by and large, their condition can be reversible.

One of the things I really enjoy is being the Regional Coordinator for CHIP - the Coronary Health Improvement Project - in Ontario, and I have facilitated four month-long CHIP programs in the Greater Toronto Area since 2001, with a fifth program being planned for Spring 2010. I love promoting CHIP's emphasis of a healthy, active lifestyle, and have done so in the community and on television. I have also volunteered previously as a nutrition consultant with the Toronto Vegetarian Association, an organization that espouses many of the same healthy lifestyle principles I promote. A wonderfully exciting experience for me is a recurring role on the television program "It Is Written", where I present a series of short "Live Healthy segments.

I am a member of Dietitians of Canada, the College of Dietitians of Ontario, and Seventh-day Adventist Dietetic Association. I also sit on several local and national health-related committees. I absolutely love delicious, vegetarian cuisine and enjoy keeping fit, especially by walking.

I have a solid background in community outreach programming, including conducting health workshops in schools, businesses, churches, community centres, for women's conferences, at teachers' conferences, and for First Nations communities. I would love to now put my expertise to work for YOU! My main goal is to help motivate you to take charge of your health, so you can reap the benefits of a healthy, active lifestyle. I will work with you to achieve your goals of good health, including showing you how eating healthfully can be totally delicious and how incorporating physical activity into your every-day living can really be quite fun! I am available to see you at my office or, for an additional fee, in your own setting, whichever works best for you. Call soon for your personal health consultation!

I can also be booked as a speaker for your next corporate or community function.

By the way, my favourite phrase is "Cheers to great health!" Cheers, everybody!
